PARKING
The car park at Housesteads Roman Fort is operated by Northumberland National Park. To support their endeavours in protecting our National Park, there is a charge to park in this car park. A standard £4.00 applies to all of their car parks along Hadrian’s Wall. This means that when you pay once, you can then explore the rest of Hadrian’s Wall using their car parks for no additional cost. For details about all of Northumberland National Park’s car parks along Hadrian’s Wall, please call 01434 611675. The fort lies uphill from the car park (a fairly strenuous 10 minute walk on steep gradient). A disabled car park is available. Please ask at the visitor centre for directions to this car park.

MUSEUM
A fascinating collection of Roman finds can be seen at Housesteads, some returning to the fort for the first time in hundreds of years. See Roman altars, dedication stones, jewellery, tools and weapons, which all give us a snapshot of life 2,000 years ago.
EXHIBITION
The museum at Housesteads has undergone a transformation. Explore the story of the fort through dramatic film footage of the stunning World Heritage Site and CGI recreations of the original Roman buildings. See what it was really like to live on this hilltop fortress of Vercovicium, the Roman name for Housesteads which means 'place of the effective fighters'.
Younger visitors can meet 'Felix', a character of the fort who will guide them around the museum.
