C.A.R.I.A.D. - Care And Respect Includes All Dogs - The Campaign To End Puppy Farming

C.A.R.I.A.D. stands for Care And Respect Includes All Dogs. For us this is especially true of the dogs that the public never see. The ones that are prisoners in battery puppy farms, both licensed by Local Authorities and of course those who operate under the radar.

These dogs are forced to churn out puppies to meet so-called 'public demand'.  They live a barren, often squalid existence. The majority never see the light of day or ever feel grass under their paws. They know only fear, pain and in many cases malnutrition and abuse at the hands of those who see them as nothing more than cash crops.

When they are no longer productive breeders, it is common for them to be dispensed with by the puppy farmers themselves by being shot, strangled or drowned. They die never having had a name and never having known a kind word or touch.

Their puppies are often poor quality with inherited genetic conditions through poor practices such as inbreeding. Because the puppies are so often sold on via third parties through pet shop licences, they can change hands several times and travel great distances in their vulnerable state leaving them open to infection and disease.

We are inundated by members of the public who have been traumatised by losing their new puppy days or weeks after purchasing them.

Although we are involved in campaigning against the concept of puppy farming across the UK, we are based in Wales - the puppy farming hub of the UK. Cariad also means 'love' or 'beloved' in Welsh and this is certainly what every dog should be - loved. 

We lobby Governments in both Cardiff and Westminster and will continue to do so vigorously alongside our like-minded colleagues until outdated legislation that allows this industry to flourish is changed.
