Heather Cottage is a stylish but comfortable three-bedroom cottage in one of the most popular villages in this area - Happisburgh.
It's not only a hop, skip and a jump from the local dog-friendly pub, The Hill House, but a lovely stroll to the dog-friendly, sandy beach and plenty of easy countryside walks. The garden is enclosed and dogs are most welcome. The owners live in the village and have 4 dogs of their own so they completely understand how important it is to be properly dog-friendly.
The village also boasts a small shop, a wonderful fresh fish shop, some beautiful old buildings and a lot of history...plus plenty of peace and quiet.
Hidden Gem, Winterton

2 Bedroom cottage (double with a sea view and twin room) has the famously dog-friendly Winterton Dunes literally at the back doorstep to enjoy miles of walks on the sandy beach. It's only a short walk to the dog-friendly pub, cafe, and shop (and fish and chips!). Understandably one of our most popular houses!

St Benets, Sea Palling

St Benets is a very nicely appointed family house, well furnished and a very short walk from the sandy Blue Flag beach at Sea Palling, a small seaside resort with a dog-friendly pub, village shop, fish and chips, dog-friendly cafe and one small amusement arcade.
The beach is protected by rock reefs which form calmer areas of water along the main part of the beach and are ideal for swimming. It is perfect for dog walking and whilst there are restrictions in place from May to September it is only to the left of the access ramp; to the right, you can walk the dogs for miles on the beach and in the dunes and stop off at nearby Waxham Barns for a coffee or further on to Nelson's Head at Horsey for a drink. Seals are a common sight along this stretch of coast.
The house has a contemporary and elegant feel but also manages to be homely and comfortable with many of the original Victorian features retained.
It can sleep up to 12 in 5 bedrooms, although an ideal number would probably be between 6 and 10.

Spent the week of June 3rd 2022 thru June 10th 2022 at one of the East Ruston Cottages - The Crib. Outstanding location, spotless cottage, completely dog-friendly with a fab large back garden -- perfect for my to Giant South African Mastiffs. Lots of room indoors, including a fab kitchen that had everything needed to cook a meal -- including a proper Sunday Roast. This was our 4th stay at The Crib, and 5th stay at one of the East Ruston Cottages. Sue and her team are outstanding. Wouldn't stay with anyone else when looking to book a holiday in Norfolk! Already have another week booked at a different cottage for the New Year.... Always feels like home away from home. Even the dogs feel the same way. Highly Recommend! Robin Gennings - Essex UK

We've just come back from such a lovely week away at The Walnut! They were very friendly owners who were so helpful with queries. The cottage was lovely with comfy beds, an amazing hot tub and good TV/internet. Perfect for dogs with a paddock, dog beds, towels and a freezer for raw food. We would absolutely love to stay again and recommend for people who would enjoy a rural location with beautiful walks nearby. Our only comments are the aga was challenging to cook with and required an hour's warm up and the showers were fixed and too short for someone above 6ft.

We are near the end of a lovely week at the Lodge and have had a lovely week. Its not far to all amenities and gives you access to some lovely beaches with no dog restrictions and many times you can actually have the beach to yourself. We have been to Norfolk with ERC quite a few times now and each cottage is always fully equipped and very clean, gardens are always secured for dogs and there is always a few goodies for adults and dogs on arrival. Many places are so dog friendly, we have used small sticks cafe, the Lighthouse Inn and the fish and chips in mundesley at the catch are recommended. Beaches at Cart Gap, Happisburgh, Winterton on Sea and Horsey are brilliant. We can't wait to come back will keep our eyes open for cancellations. Thank you ERC.

We’ve had a fantastic week at Greenwood Barn, one of the latest editions to the ERC family. The over riding feeling here is one of peace, quiet and space. The garden is huge and secure and the only neighbours that we heard were a few pigs in the field next door. There’s another holiday cottage next door but this wasn’t occupied and it doesn’t overlook Greenwood Barn at all. The outside tab with a shower head fitting is great for washing the dogs down after they’ve had a swim in the sea.
The whole property gives you a sense of space with high ceilings and big rooms and underfloor heating just about everywhere. The 3 bedrooms are generous and all en suite with plenty of drawer space, although only the small twin has a wardrobe so hanging space is a bit limited.
The lounge has 2 comfy 3 seater settees and an arm chair and there was plenty of space for us to have a couple of crates (provided by ERC) in there, always useful to save bringing them in and out of the car every time you go out. A good size TV (we brought our own Firestick which is a good tip) and a dining table for 6 are also in this room. There is also a huge table and benches outside as well as a gas barbecue.
The kitchen was a good size and really well fitted out with good quality shaker style units, a dishwasher, washing machine, double oven/grill, microwave and a separate fridge and freezer. It was a useful size freezer, which came with a bag of ice, but we found that the fridge was really only big enough to store supplies for a few days rather than the whole week. (Especially when you get a few beers and bottles of wine in there). Plenty of pots, pans, crockery and glasses to keep you going for a few meals too.
Plenty of doggie goodies, with blankets, towels, bowls and toys and masses of space to run around in the garden.
Just a few minutes from the huge beach at Walcott/Bacton and we’ll positioned to travel to Mundesley and Cromer to the north or just down the coast to Happisburgh and Sea Palling.
Plenty of great dog friendly cafes nearby too, including Sugar and Spice at Bacton, The Dunes at Waxham Barn and Hatters Tea Shop in Cromer. All these had a good gluten free selection too.

We stayed at Manor Barn in Happisburgh for the last week. There are lots of lovely walks across fields or to Happisburgh or cart gap beach straight from the door. The barn is beautifully decorated and well equipped with lovely bathrooms and comfy bedrooms and beds.
The kitchen gorgeous with lots of space.
Both us and our rescue dog were made to feel very welcome and nothing really was too much trouble even helping me book a birthday surprise for my mum.

Our first stay at High Barn, hopefully not the last! We have been on several ERC holidays, REALLY dog friendly - not just, one small dog £25, but AS MANY AS YOU LIKE - FREE! Not once have we gone to a cottage and it smelt 'doggy'. Always high standard of cleanliness and friendliness! High Barn is at the end of an unmade road with magical views across the countryside and sea. Well thought out, seating all around this detached property, to catch the sun as it works it's way around. Walks straight from the property, and easy waking/driving distance to many of the lovely Norfolk beaches. Only downside, so popular is it solidly booked for 2021/22, but we will be keeping an eye open for any cancellations. Thank you to Sue (ERC) and Leonie (owner of High Barn) for making our first 'post Covid' holiday one to remember!

Not particularly modern or flashy, Redroofs is an old & quirky property with a fabulous outlook in a quiet and stunning location. On a private road overlooking one of Norfolk’s quietest and most beautiful Broads it’s a real family home.
Such a relief to be able to leave the back doors open knowing the dogs can run around the huge dog-safe rear garden without doing any damage or getting lost. Lots of outdoor seating for the sunny times in the gardens maintained by the lovely Jimmy.
The kitchen is full of quality equipment, should you need it. There are carpets! This is great if your dog doesn’t like hard floors (like ours). It really is a home from home and that’s why we just keep on coming back...

Have just returned from a wonderful week at Wagtail Cottage, Ingham Corner with our 4 dogs. A lovely, quiet and cosy cottage. Dog beds, crates, throws for the sofa, Dog toys and bowls were all there if you needed them. Humans were also well catered for with comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen, log burner and welcome pack. We ordered the afternoon tea to be at the cottage for our arrival and it was superb.
Country walks straight from the door and a short drive from some beautiful dog friendly beaches and pubs.
I would not hesitate to book with East Ruston Cottages again and in fact we have already! Sue made it so easy and responded promptly to any questions we had.

We have just returned from a fabulous week staying in RubyGem in Winterton on Sea with our dogs. The cottage was really lovely, it had a real sparkle and the location was perfect - a few minutes walk away from the dunes and the village shops and pub.

We were delighted be the first visitors to The Lodge after Lockdown and it didn’t disappoint. Immaculately clean, comfy, very well stocked for both us and our dog ensured a perfect few days stay. The garden was private with a decking area which we were able to enjoy in the sunshine.

Cornerways is a great place to stay it has a unique & rustic charm from the fairy door to the roll top bath. The beds were so comfy & the sea is just over the ramp the dogs loved it. The garden is small & completely escape proof. We would definitely stay here again.

Heather Cottage is a wonderful, cosy cottage in the heart of Happisburgh village. Quiet location, just a 15 minute stroll to the beach down a country lane (no pavement) and only 2 minutes walk from the local pub serving good food. Also not far by car from many other pubs, cafes, small local shops, beaches and country parks which are perfect for dog walking. A perfect retreat to get away from it all as the cottage itself is just lovely; beautifully presented, modern country style and immaculately kept with comfortable furnishings and everything you could possibly need during your stay. It was cosy and comfortable for just two of us, plus our dogs, but is also spacious enough for a larger family. The small garden was totally secure for our two terriers so we did not have to worry about them escaping. North Norfolk is a lovely place to visit and we would highly recommend this cottage as a base for exploring. Book securely and safely with East Ruston Cottages and have a simply fabulous holiday.

We have recently returned from a wonderful holiday in White Cottage with our furry foursome. Such a cosy homely cottage with a huge, safe garden for the furry family members to play in. Everything is so well thought out with every need possible catered for. There are some lovely walks from the door or a very short drive to cafes and beautiful beaches, all of which are very welcoming to dogs. Truly dog friendly in every way ! You honestly can't beat East Ruston Cottages for a perfect, relaxed break away.

We had a wonderful stay in Heather Cottage. The cottage was exceptionally clean and had all the things needed for a very dog friendly holiday. Throws, bowls, poo bags, delicious treats! The location was perfect for visits to the pub, walks on the beach etc. In these covid times we felt very safe in the cottage knowing that all the necessary precautions had been put in place. Can't recommend highly enough.

Fantastic accommodation so welcoming and dog friendly and ideally placed to visit beaches and woods lovely welcome everywhere we went. The cottage was so welcoming and homely with a lovely welcome from the owner and the cottage was very well equipped. with everything we needed plus the garden was fully enclosed so felt very confident none of our 6 dogs would escape it is so hard to find a cottage that will take so many dogs and to find one so comfortable and homely We enjoyed it so much we have booked twice for next year

After all that 2020 has given us so far, a stay in High Barn & the lovely Norfolk was just what was needed! We stayed as a large family group with 2 dogs and had a brilliant week. High Barn is a wonderful place with everything you could need for your holiday. The hot tub was an added bonus and we would definitely recommend you book this to use during your stay. The views from the balcony were stunning and watching the sunrise over the sea is something special. The dogs loved the secure garden, snoozing by the log burner and running on the ‘secret beach’. The welcome pack was great with loads of ideas of things to do. Between us, we did a lot in a week but highlights were a visit to Happisburgh Owls (book ahead) a visit to Horsey beach to see the seals and a boat trip on the broads. Other trips out included breakfast at Smallsticks Café, walks in Bacton Woods, Winterton beach, Cart Gap, Sea Palling, East Ruston Old Vicarage Garden, Meales garden centre and a meal out at the Lighthouse Inn in Walcott. We also ordered meals in from The Ingham Swan and The Mermaid’s Slipper which were delicious. Thank you Sue & Leonie for a very special family holiday with lots of memories to treasure. None of us wanted to come home! We hope to be back again soon.

This is the second time we have used East Ruston cottages and have booked a third for next year. As always properties clean, very dog friendly ( multiple dogs allowed rare to find )and welcoming. We stayed this year in Manor barn and loved it. Plenty of space and in good quiet location. All facilities were ‘top dog’! The owners very approachable and helpful. Use this company and you won’t regret it!

Thankyou very much for allowing us to have a fantastic week in thatchers, it really is a wonderful house set in a truly fantastic place. We had a lovely time relaxing in the HUGE garden, the dogs have loved it as well! It was super handy being so close to the beach as well, we went twice everyday. From the moment we pulled into the drive our jaws hit the floor, we couldn’t believe the sheer size of the house and it left us smiling all week. The house suited us all perfectly, there was plenty of space for us all to do our own things when we wanted and the kitchen/dinner/snug area worked really well when we all wanted to be together, the true hub of the house!
The dogs had an absolute joy of a time in that massive garden, running around it for as long as they desired and just having a good old time, the weather was lovely for a few days during our stay so we got to sit out in it and just relax. It’s so nice being able to hear the sea in the distance as well, it just makes you truly relax and forget about everything else that’s happening in the world.
A big thankyou for the welcome cake as well, it was delicious! We’d all love to come and stay again, so hopefully that can happen sooner rather than later.

Hidden Gem at Winterton-on-Sea was well named: it was a fabulous cottage backing on to the dunes. The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable and cosy stay - even with Storm Dennis at its peak. It was warm & welcoming and even included a basket of goodies on arrival. Everything was geared up for a relaxing stay, with dogs catered for completely. I parked my car outside when we arrived and didn’t need to move it until we left the following Friday: Winterton had everything we needed right on our doorstep - a dog-friendly pub (Fisherman’s Return), two dog-friendly cafés (The Dunes & Poppy’s Tea Room), a Post Office and convenience stores & a fish & chip shop. What more could we need! The locals were friendly & welcoming too... And then there were miles and miles of unspoiled beaches and dunes to explore - utter bliss for dogs & people alike. We will definitely go back.

We have had one of the best Christmases ever at Corner Cottage.The decorations were amazing.The welcome hamper was full of lovely goodies.The cottage was really cozy and the beds were really comfortable.The kitchen is so well equipped.I had no problem in cooking Christmas lunch,roast turkey and all the trimmings.We ate at the Star and they had a choir that night singing Christmas songs which we all sang along to.We also ate at the Vernon arms Which was really good.We took the dogs to the beach every morning which they really enjoyed especially our 5 month old yellow lab as this was her first experience of the beach.We cannot recommend this cottage enough.It is truly wonderful.We hope to return very soon.Also must mention Sue at East Ruston for making the whole experience so easy.

We have just returned from a long weekend at Thatchers. We had the most wonderful time!
The house is HUGE, as is the garden! There was plenty of space for the 10 of us.
The location is great - walking distance to a very welcoming pub and the beautiful beach and lighthouse.
We had fish and chips from Bacton which were really tasty and didn’t cost much at all either.
We visited nearby Horsey Gap (approx 30 minute drive away) where we saw the seals and their pups on the beach! (185 pups born this season so far!) well worth a visit.
We also went to Blickling Hall for a long dog walk/tea and cake. Also about 30 mins away and worth a trip.
We really appreciated all the extras at the house (dog bowls, beds, leads etc; children’s toys - outdoor and indoor, dvds, stair gate, cot, high chair; welcome cake and birthday Prosecco for the adults).
We had afternoon tea delivered to our door (see photo) and we also had a local beautician come by to give us facials and do our nails!
Some of us visited Felbrigg and others went swimming (private hire of the whole pool) - both recommended!
Sue from ERC made booking and organising a trip for so many people/dogs so easy! Thank you.

My friend and I have just had our second stay at Milestone Barn. As soon as we arrived we relaxed, as did our three Greyhounds and one Pointer
I had a couple of requests, which the owners were happy to do. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Sadly we had to come home early, due to me having a bad fall on the road and breaking my arm. Got a lovely phone message from Pat (the owner) when she heard we had come home early.
If you want a relaxed holiday in a lovely converted barn, in beautiful surroundings, with The Paxton way literally across the road, then book up now.

Our 1st stay at Thatchers but not our 1st East Ruston holiday. This house is perfect for family time. Us, our sons, daughter in laws granddaughters and 7 dogs between us. Huge garden which was loved by children and dogs alike. The walk to the beach. The food at the Hilltop inn. So much to see an do. We will definitely be back there next year.

We stayed at Thatch Cottage as a large family group. It is a stunning cottage in a quiet location. A huge, dog safe garden with beautiful views. Walks from the door and so many places to visit nearby including Eccles beach, Cart Gap, Happisburgh, Horsey, Winterton-On-Sea, Sea Palling & East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens to name just a few! We would recommend The Star Inn Pub, Smallsticks cafe and Poppylands cafe. Sue was brilliant at helping us find the right property for our needs. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and already looking to book again. Thank you :-)

This was our fourth stay in an east Ruston cottage and was once again a relaxing break. Red Roofs is a beautiful rambling house right on the broads. Comfortable and spacious, clean and inviting. The garden is fully enclosed and huge! Our pup really enjoyed running around outside. I wouldn’t bring any of our other dogs though as the fence on one side is quite low. Other than that it was faultless.

Fab cottage, really clean and well equipped. VERY dog friendly, our black lab loved the garden and walks, plus dog friendly local beaches. Loads to do in the area, and good food (particularly good fish and chips)! We will definitely be back.

A lovely, comfortable, welcoming cottage. Everything we could possibly need, and more, was provided, including a welcome pack of goodies. 100% dog friendly, beds included. A large well fenced garden which was ideal for the dogs to be able to wander in and out. A short walk to the beach for our early morning rambles, and not far to Bacton woods and other walks too.

A wonderful warm welcome from the owners of this lovely comfortable spacious cottage. Delicious homemade cake waiting for us on arrival, along with all the basics needed, milk, bread, eggs, tea. coffee etc. which were much appreciated after a long drive! Perfect for a holiday with your 4 legged family members, from handmade doggie treats to dog beds of every shape and size & a totally enclosed rear garden, everything needed for our dogs had been thought off........ and more! Really well equipped cottage along with a beautiful patio and outdoor furniture to enjoy an afternoon/evening meal and a perfect spot to relax with a drink whilst watching watch the setting sun. Such a quiet and beautiful location with lovely views across the fields up to the church, but only 20 mins from the beach, we would higher recommend and would love to return!

The location was perfect for countryside footpaths and just over a mile to the local beaches at Trimingham and Mundesley. Both were exceptionally quiet while we were there mid-March (perfect for us).
We've stayed at a few cottages managed by ERC and have found each experience to be wholly positive. Dogs are truly welcome and Sue is eager to share tips and recommendations about the local area to suit your individual needs. I've recommended this company to all my friends with canines in their family and several are also loyal ERC customers now.

It was our first time using East Ruston cottage but we were so happy we chose Hidden Gem to spend a wonderful weeks holiday it definitely lived up to its name, the facility’s in the cottage were perfect , the location amazing for walking the dogs straight onto the dunes and beach and the village had all you could need, pub, chipshop, post office and local shop. The cottage was so homely and spacious for us and our 3 dogs. The special birthday cake and bottle of bubble was a wonderful surprise that greeted us on arrival. All the information and the Pubs and areas to visit were most welcome , we had some delicious meals out and all the pubs allowed our boys in. We will definitely be returning .

Having used East Ruston Cottages before, we had no doubt The Walnut would be another beautiful property and we were not disappointed.
The Walnut is stunning inside and out. Stella and Paul should be very proud, especially Paul who did the build. The booklet showing the old farm building being transformed is very interesting. Everything about the property is high spec. Paul even had USB charging points put in and there are plenty of sockets (you can never have too many sockets).
The welcome hamper was scrummy and our dogs (3 Greyhounds and a Pointer) enjoyed the dog biscuits.
The beds and the Egyptian cotton bedding were divine. As soon as we put the throws (supplied) on the sofas our dogs took over. At one point we thought we would have to sit on the floor.
Nothing was too much trouble for Stella and Paul. I had requested a summer duvet and fan and both were there.
We saw an Owl and often heard them. Also Muntjac deer and birds of prey. If you want a stunning property, in a beautiful quiet area, the The Walnut is the place.

This company provide exactly what they promise. Properly secure gardens, properly dog friendly cottages, you DO NOT arrive to find holes in hedges and a list of no-no rules for the dogs. We all know that if the dogs can relax on holiday then we the owners will. AND WE DID!

Beautiful little accommodation, which feels so much bigger inside. A place where you can completely relax surrounded by fields and wildlife. The hot tub was wonderful, being able to lay in there in the evening watching for shooting stars in the night sky and listening to the owls calling...Perfect!
The layout was great for the dogs, two of which are very elderly now, they loved laying by the open patio doors, in the warm February sun, watching the world go by. The paddock was a huge hit for our crazy staff. It meant she could run around off her lead without us having to worry about other dogs suddenly appearing. Look forward to returning one day.
